WOMEN AND EXPLOITS

Hello my wonderful readers. Today, I am going to make a diversion from the norm and make this post a feature story on a particular woman who is doing something I consider absolutely wonderful. Well well, Let us have a look. The woman whom I am referring to is Mrs Sandra Aguebor, the first Lady Mechanic in Nigeria. I can imagine the looks of surprise on your faces right now. Lady? Mechanic? How? Where? When?   Yes! Lady Mechanic, Mechanic in the literal and figurative sense of it. The Mechanic that fixes your cars, buses and Trucks. Yes, that mechanic but this time, a woman. According to her, becoming a Mechanic is something she always had a passion for and she achieved it through steadfastness, hard work and the grace of God. She runs a car care company called SANDEX CAR CARE, a professional auto garage that has been delivering quality and excellent car care and repair services since 1995. Getting to become a lady mechanic wasn’t an easy journey as she didn’t immediately get encouragement from people around her. Her parents, however became supportive and this motivated her to pursue her career. Because of her interest in the empowerment of fellow women, She founded the lady mechanic Initiative in 2004. The LMI is a non profit organization that empowers girls and women with mechanical skills to enable them to become professionals in the field of automotive repairs. The big idea in setting up LMI is for these girls and women to acquire skills, defeat poverty, create wealth and Live a better life. In the last ten years, she has trained seven hundred girls and women in different parts of the country. Among this large number are indigent girls and women, ex commercial workers, deportees, orphans, school cert holders who are unable to proceed to the higher institution e.t.c.  They are taught to repair cars,to become plumbers, fix generators and also taught how to drive depending on what course they are admitted for. These Ladies are also paid salaries while learning.. The success story of the LMI has attracted both local and international attention and recognitions for the lady mechanic herself. Media houses have also had feature stories on her and her achievements. The initiative has received huge partnership and support from Individuals, government and several foundations who sponsor the training of these girls. More individuals and bodies are further enjoined to support this noble cause which leads to the development of the country as a whole. The LMI can be contacted via the following media. Website – www.ladymechanicinitiative.org Twitter- @ladymechanics Email – ladymechanicinitiative@yahoo.com Instagram- ladymechanics Facebook- ladymechanicinitiative I believe this is a very meaningful initiative especially when one thinks of the target members. The country indeed needs more people like this. Thanks for stopping by. I ll be back. BOS IMG_9173_DSC4866 SAM_1291 _DSC4840 IMG_8801 - Copy

Wow! This is awesome. I could imagine the negative comments she might have gotten from her friends and contemporaries when she set out to do what women are not expected to do. I think this should serves as an inspiration and a driving force to other ladies out there never to allow the society opinion’s overshadow their dreams and passion. Thanks for this. More grace to your elbow..

This passes a message to us that we need to breed our girls differently it is not enough for we to say “you are a girl” leave it to the guyz , we have successfully shrinked the dreams and abilities of our girls in the ideology that they are “girls”. This lady amongst a few is a testimony that the world deserves an equal opportunity to all sexes, and we need to stop caging our sons in a box with the mentality of being masculine and everything has to channel through him which makes them vulnerable to pressure and despiration . The world would be a more healthier place if we could do things differently. All the best to her,she is a model to many .Cheers

INSPIRING! Seeing ladies excel at a job that’s only deemed fit for men is an amazing thing, I’m pretty sure patronage would be driven off the charts cos a lot of people would want to satisfy their doubt and end up becoming customers when their automobile gets some major fix. Such brave women are hard to find nowadays, Kudos to Mrs Sandra.

Now, that’s what we talking about! I think I should consider taking a course or some few lessons with them. Always dreaded a car breaking down in the middle of nowhere without knowing what to touch or hit with a stone. Great, impressive and inspirational piece. Thank you dear.

    Laudable! Meritorious! Praiseworthy! Impressive! Commendable!

The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with hard work, drive and passion, it’s possible to achieve the American dream. – Tommy Hilfiger.

Some two years plus ago, I went to learn how to sew, I prolly would have “dropped out” along the way, but because of the passion and interest I’ve had, they kept me going. Look at where I am today.

Walt Disney, an American motion-picture and television producer, once said, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them”.
A lot of people want to achieve different things, but the courage, passion, perseverance, hardwork, zeal and enthusiasm are not just always there.
But, look at this woman, everything has been there, reason she’s where she is today. I wish most people can just “tap” from this woman’s spirit and mind.

This is motivating. My lil’ sis should read this piece. She studies mechanical engineering in one of our Nigerian universities.

Thanks darling for sharing this. Well done.

It is a laudable initiative which should get more publicity. Gender empowerment and equality has been a long standing issue in societies worldwide so it’s nice to know that women can choose a career dominated by the male folks (and who says they can’t do it better). I encourage improved awareness to catch these girls young & I wish the LMI all the best
