Day 8: The November Happiness Challenge 2020

Olajumoke… The first time I met her, it was sometime in 2004 or 2005, she came into my school to join us in SS2 and as was the practice then, she was taken to the ‘average students’class’ where the newcomers were welcomed to before their performance would earn them a retainment at the class or a movement to the class of the A listers. She was so quiet and unassuming, we used to see each other on the assembly ground or if we passed by each other, I just admired her calm. After the mid term exams, she excelled so much that she was taken to the A listers class and this was quite surprising to many people. Not that newcomers had no chance at excelling of course, but how she was able to ace all the papers within a short time of joining the class was quite commendable. And this made the school show more interest in her. We still remained the ‘hello hi’ friends and we knew we were acquaintances. Sometime in SS3, we started getting closer as her church was close to my neighbourhood. We would sometimes leave school together if she had a programme in church and that was the beginning of a friendship that has spanned over a decade. When we both got admission into different universities , it didn’t halt our friendship in any way, we maintained it and visited once or twice. She later left the country to pursue her dream course and this didn’t affect our friendship either, we were intentional about keeping in touch and we updated each other about the happenings in our lives. Olajumoke is a pure soul. I say it to anyone who cares to listen that she is one of the best people I have known in my entire life. Asides being very intelligent, she is kind in a very special way. You know the kind of kindness that is always present and willing, always ready and interested in helping? Yes, that. Her approach to issues is always done in a well thought out manner and I can’t help but admire her peaceful outlook to life. I always told myself that any man who got to marry her would be very lucky , and lucky indeed he is! It gives an icing on the cake that I’m well acquainted with this lucky man as he is a friend to my own lucky man. Family of lucky people right? She has taught me over the years that we all need understanding people in our lives and there is nothing as amazing as a pure and meaningful friendship. I have learnt from her, that one should take life very easy and do one’s best in effecting a change. She saves lives, and saves you from stress too, because this babe would rather be uncomfortable than see you uncomfortable. At my wedding, everyone saw and commented on how active and involved she was all through, and how keen she was about not making any thing get to me on my big day. She loves me deeply, and she shows it in her actions and words. I’m big in friendships that give, friendships that offer, friendships that wish for good for the other, and in this regard, I believe that I have hit a jackpot in her. Her advice and actions gave me one of the biggest gifts I have in my life, and that alone is worthy of her being praised for ever. She is someone I always want to speak to about things on my mind, because I’m sure to get wise counsel and unbiased suggestions. She indeed makes me happy and I can only pray that God continues to grant her genuine happiness too. She is my lookalike, and I once was mistaken for her at her parent’s shop while I was visiting. I love her very much, and I can only pray that God grants me the blessings I seek so that I can show her in gifts and actions how much she means to me.
Told ya we are Twinnies.
Today, we will play catch up with an old friend. You know that friend or friends that you probably haven’t spoken to in a while? Send them a message and ask how they are doing. Don’t just do the regular “how are you” and “fine”. Talk to them and let them know you want to have a chat with them and catch up with happenings since it’s been a while you spoke. Also be willing to let on some of the things that have been happening with you, those you are comfortable sharing . It could be you both reminiscing on old times or sharing gists that happened when you were together at a point. Just reach out to them! And they’d be so glad. I’ll be back. OBA

I have a close friend who made a very despicable statement when protesters were shot at at Lekki during the protests, I haven’t been able to forgive that since he made the comment and I don’t know if I will because I didn’t expect that from someone I cherish that much. You have any advise on what I can do?

    • November 8, 2020

Wow. Since it really makes you feel somehow, can you try to reach out to him and let him know how his comments hurt you?

      • November 8, 2020

I did, made it known that instant, he neither apologized nor took ownership, he just simply tried to counter my statement hinging on the fact that the protests went on too long. Safe to say it’s been cold since then.

Maybe you should give it a while and broach the subject again.

Speechless doesn’t begin to describe how I feel right now. You tell me of how much I mean to you at every opportunity you get, but each time, I’m still in awe.

Thank you for being true all through the years. You make it all easy! And like I always tell you, we’re only a reflection of you. The goodness, sweetness and kindness you exude is what we mirror.
