Day 4: The November Happiness Challenge 2020

When I was schooling at Unilorin, my dad took me to school anytime I wanted to resume and came to pick me anytime the session ended. I spent four years in Unilorin, so you should count the number of times he must have done that. It was more huge that, my years in Unilorin were the same years my dad used to work at some remote locations far away, so this meant that he sometimes had to take me to school, then leave for the work location, or leave the work location and come pick me from school. He travelled hours and hours, on lonely and unsafe roads, to bring me comfort and make sure I’m okay. I took a new phone to school every session, because somehow, he would have gotten me a new one to use, and this he did consistently. He made it so easy for me to be content with every of their provisions for me, and I was never covetous of other people’s things. He made good of the fact that Fathers are providers and he never ever defaulted on this except there was no availability of resources. My dad and I were not the ‘gisting’ type but the assurance was there that he’d always be present. My friends would come to the house and they’d be excited to meet him because he gave us enough freedom that would make us feel at ease and also balanced it with the discipline that would keep up from going astray. Looking back at the years, I am indeed very happy and pleased with how he allowed us to have friends over, and how he would even ginger the birthday parties my siblings and I used to throw from time to time. It was the cutest thing. One day, I was working in Lagos so I was already a big baby. I went home for a short break and I needed to get an item from Lagos, the person bringing the item was already quite impatient and I was thinking up how I’d go to meet him at the park. My driving wasn’t good enough to get on the express and there was no way I’d take a bike , which means I had to walk to the junction first and then take a cab since there was no Uber or Bolt in Ibadan at that time . I was really worried about what to do and my dad noticed this. He had just started eating and when I told him what the issue was, he said he’d take me there. I asked him what would happen to his food and he said the food could wait, that the important thing at the moment was to get my items intact. I actually almost shed a tear. This singular act was so huge to me and it resounds in my memory everytime. My dad embodies sacrifice and again, I’m glad that God blessed me with him. Oh and his sense of humor? Top notch! He is that person you just want to be around because there is always something funny he would share. He is very jovial and as quiet as he can be, once he is comfortable with you, you are in for bouts and bouts of laughter. And he is cute! My friends used to make jokes about wanting to be my stepmum anytime they visited the house. See for yourself nowwwww
Yes, I had to put a picture of both of them so that you don’t get ideas 😂😂
All of the instances above are just to let you know the awesomeness that I call my father, and to show gratefulness for it. He is indeed one of those who make me happy and I smile when I think about him. Thank you daddy, thank you for everything. Today, I’m sure you can guess already. We are going to reach out to our fathers / anyone who stands as a father figure to us, we are going to sincerely thank them for all that they are and all that they do. We are going to let them know how much we cherish them and we are going to pray for them from the bottom of our hearts. Tell them you love them too, I know that many of us find it weird to do this but do it! While putting a smile on their faces, you are smiling too, and you are attaining happiness. I’ll be back. OBA

    What a “sweet” read!
    Fathers are indeed our mirrors.
I have the sweetest memories of moments with my dad.
That time he took me to Kings College Lagos for my common entrance examination and a riot broke out from no where, tear gas everywhere. My daddy carried me -9/10 at the time and ran as fast as his legs cook carry him.
When he taught me how to spell my name.
When he sat all night fanning my hands as a teenager, because I had ignorantly washed out the seeds from pepper nobody sent me to clean.
When he let me hide behind him when my mum wanted to really spank me for eating all 9 pieces of fried fish reserved for dinner. LOL. For reasons best known to him, it was funny!
Then he would sneak pieces of meat/fish for me while I served my punishment of not eating either for a week. By the way, my daddy still cuts meat for me when he’s eating and I’m around. ☺
The many times he calls to ask if everything is okay, knowing the situation of my work place at the moment.
When he would stay on the phone with me all through my chores as a pregnant newly wed whose husband was working late, till he was sure my hubby had arrived.
When he cried when he learnt I had been scheduled for a C-section cos baby was breech.
When he surprised me by coming down after baby was born.
    And so many more …when’s.
I had the privilege of repaying him in a tiny little way when he had to put up at mine for over a month earlier this year for a surgery. I pampered him to a fault! My husband playfully confessed to him that he was jealous o.

May almighty Allah continue to keep him for us. He’s indeed an amazing man! I love seeing fathers get the accolades and love they deserve, it doesn’t happens often. Indeed, we need to do better showing our fathers how much we appreciate all they did for us. I’m glad you’ve shown the way.

Daddy, daddy; the absolute embodiment of “forever young”. I have known him for about 16years now and he looks almost the same.

I attest to many of your descriptions of him. I think my earliest memory is of him bringing you and your “kaya” to school when you had a food & nutrition practical, and he came back to pick you and the stuff later that day. I don’t think we were friends yet, but I witnessed the kind gestures.

God put fathers in our lives so we can have a vivid picture of how much He has us in mind and our best interests at heart.

May God continually bless and keep them. May He also bless us so we can give them the deserved pampering. Amin
