Day 29: The November Happiness Challenge 2020
![]()
Social media is one of the best things that have happened to the world in a while and I’ll tell you why.
Sometimes I wonder, how was life before Social media? How did we interact? How did introverts have conversations? How did people meet themselves? I mean, I know these things happened one way or the other, but Social media has simplified the processes so much that you can’t even remember there was ever a different way.
I hear people say that Social media has ills and promotes vices and so on, and as much as I wouldn’t like to dispute this, I’d like to say that almost everything which has great meaning and usefulness will most likely have downsides. And looking at the goodness of social media, we can agree that they outweigh the bad.
Social media has facilitated and continues to facilitate friendships, relationships and marriages. It has provided and provides an avenue for people to get jobs and get their businesses going. There was a time when you had to either open a store compulsorily or put your wares on your head or hands and carry everywhere to make sales. But now? You only need to plug in the internet and you are good to go. We can’t begin to quantify the amount of businesses that are run purely through social media and these blessings are blooming, neither can we qualify their success rates because it is indeed very high.
Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and more are platforms that have really helped me over the years. They have plugged me to different opportunities and have availed me ways to build my ideas and bring them to fruition. I have met the most wonderful humans on these platforms and we have built long lasting relationships that would span years. The jobs I have worked have been gotten through one connect or the other that originally came from Social media. I have learnt more about my religion through reminders that I see on the platforms and I have also learnt ways to be a better person, wife, mother, daughter and everything.
To navigate all of these and to avoid the negatives as much as you can, you’d have to be deliberate about the kind of content you see on a daily and this can be done by carefully choosing the kind of people you follow and continuously sanitizing your space. Of course the unpleasant content will spill in sometimes but that won’t be because you didn’t make an attempt to avoid them.
Sometimes, I’m in my feelings and I go online to see something so hilarious, I begin to smile. Other times, I can’t put my emotions into words but then someone randomly posts something that sums it all up and it is so amazing! Like wow, have you been in my head? One could be in a dark space and then going online to see colours and beauty all over could be the light you need at that time. When your faith is low, you could just see a reminder that puts everything in perspective and you begin to reignite the energy. It is all so beautiful.
Shoutout to every of my followers, acquaintances and friends on social media, you all are wonderful and I feel like you are family in a way. The way we have interactions, exchange ideas, talk about life issues and more will always be a reason I appreciate you. Thanks for being one of my happy places, and for the succor you bring.
Today, we are going to pass compliments like it is the most natural thing to do. We are going to compliment people on their outfits, their intelligence, their beauty, their calmness and any other thing we deem fit to be complimented. Don’t hoard compliments at all today, give to as many people as you can and watch them smile.
I’ll be back. OBA

We just have to stick with the benefits of SM. Like you rightly noted, it has many ills but it can also be a very vital tool in the life of an individual. Thank you for reminding us again. Thank you.
