Hi, I’m Sophia and I love to Travel: When Tolanie asked me to write for the November Happiness challenge talking about what makes me happy, the only thing that came to my mind really is to talk about travel.“This heart of mine was made to travel this world”– AnonymousI came to the realization of how much travel made me happy when I joined my current company. I got a job that required a lot of local travel and as a Nigerian, you can imagine how stressful that is with the scary airlines, bad roads and insecurity in most parts of the country but somehow, I always found a way to make it fun. I remember how much my colleagues would complain about having to go to the North especially because of the harsh weather conditions but for me it was just an avenue to conquer another state.

“Travel is never a matter of money but of courage”– Paulo CoelhoFun Fact: I’ve visited 22 out of the 36 states in NigeriaThe first country I ever visited was Cote D’Ivoire in 2006 (I was also born there but that doesn’t count, does it?). It was a road trip with my sister and cousins to visit my paternal grandma who lived there at the time. We spent a total of 12 days on the road (round trip) needless to say I hated it! My next trip after that was to the UK in 2014. That trip was my first self-funded trip as an adult and it was that trip that I found my coping mechanism for this thing called Adulthood.Adulting is hard, it is the single biggest scam ever sold to all humans. Since graduation and the beginning of my career I have been waiting to see that big thing I was so excited and looking forward to as a kid and I still haven’t found it. It’s a huge let down from what I envisioned in my head, the stress, the bills, the responsibilities and don’t even get me started about living in Lagos. Within just 2 years of working, I was tired, I had only been working for about 20 months and I couldn’t cope and I’m expected to do this for 20-30 more years?Fun Fact: I have visited minimum one new Country or City in a different country every year since 2014.Travel is my coping mechanism for adulting, it’s what keeps me happy. I live an extremely busy life – I have a day job that is quite demanding, requires a lot of travel, I’m running an MBA program and I tutor on some weekends. I ask myself how I’m able to do all this and why and whenever I think of the next city or country that I want to visit, I don’t mind putting in that extra at all. Many people just assume ’m rich to be able to afford all this but the truth is I don’t travel lavish, I travel smart. Some people spend their salaries on clothes, food, parties, I spend mine on traveling. Connect with me on Instagram

That’s amazing, I wish I have the means to travel like you, travelling is fun
Travelling is very refreshing; especially to new places. It’s high time I became more deliberate about it.
My eyes lit up when I read that quote from Paulo Coelho. He’s one of my favourite Authors.
