Day 11: The November Happiness Challenge 2021

In July this year, we took my event; Meet and Greet with Omotolaniee, to Ibadan for the third time.

The preparation for the event was smooth. I did most of the planning and execution anyway, so I had spoken to all the vendors and people who would be a part of making the day a success. I had spoken to someone regarding a collaboration where they’d give us their space to use for the event and we’d provide awareness to their target audience before, during and after the event. It was a seamless agreement and looked like it’d birth even more collaborations.

A day before the event , I went over to the venue to get everything sorted because that’s how I do for all my events. I don’t wait till the day before trying to arrange things due to the fact that I’m aware things could come up unplanned. As I got there, I found out the gate was locked and there was no activity around there. After seeing this, where the calmness I exuded came from, I don’t know. I just know that I brought my phone out from my bag and started making calls to my contact.

I did this for over thirty minutes without a response and then I started to panic a bit. I needed clarity on what was happening. Why was the place locked? Why were my calls not being picked? Could the contact have forgotten we had a plan? I mean, I had informed them I’d come a day before the event so what was the actual issue? I was pacing up and down the place and thinking up possible reasons for the occurrence.

I reached out to W because really, I needed to rant to someone who would help me with making sense of the situation. He immediately suggested that I started finding means to get a different location and I just wouldn’t hear it. What? Find another location when the event was just the next morning? I truly wanted to weep but what would that have done? It wouldn’t magically open up the gate or make the person pick my calls or give me a center for my event. I was sad.

It wasn’t helpful that some vendors were calling me about being on the way to drop items and I didn’t have a tangible explanation for them. I was so overwhelmed but I managed to keep a calm face still. A friend even drove by and parked to greet me with his family, we had a good conversation and he wouldn’t have imagined I was in such a tight spot.

I later realized that the calls wouldn’t be responded to. So I searched for the person’s mutual and the conversation I got made me know that it wasn’t promising. Another contact from the location was willing to let us use the space but the rules were very many because of course, it was obvious we really needed it . What a moment!

My friend who stayed close by called me to come over as it was the initial plan that I’d sleep at her place. On getting there, we discussed it and she called her husband who sympathized and then said: “This is what happens when you look for freebies”. My friend told him that I could hear him and he said : “Yes now, give the phone to her’. Lol it was too funny fam, he asked me why I had to get a free space and reminded me that free things come with their own sides. I tried to explain that I also had my part of the bargain and it wasn’t exactly free then he asked if I paid money 😂😂. I laughed so much on that day, you wouldn’t know I was in a mess.

W called again and we agreed on getting a new space as he earlier suggested. We paid for it that evening and our event came, it was beautiful. It turned out even more amazing than I would have envisaged because we had enough space for our activities. God also used one of the vendors as a support system because she bent her back over to ensure the beauty and success of the event.

The joke my friend’s husband made really eased the tension for that period, and it was also me getting some advice. If you know me, you’d know that I laugh so much and I am in love with humor. I like to listen to jokes and share them too, I don’t take things to heart easily especially when they are light hearted jokes and not intended to make me feel bad. I love comedy!

Today, we will intentionally make ourselves laugh. And that is by either sharing a joke you know with someone, or by checking Instagram pages of people who are known to make comedy skits. My fave is Josh2funny, so you can check his page or any other page you find interesting; that can actually make you laugh. Do it for yourself today, let us laugh❤️

Here is a picture of me from the aforementioned event that eventually banged.
