Day 11 : The November Happiness Challenge

I’ll try to finish the gist today. After we both went on with our lives, in different cities, we kept in touch and exchanged calls and messages once in a while. We would update each other on what had been happening and then wish each other well. This went on for three years. There was a time I saw a picture of someone on his Whatsapp dp and I asked who she was (I mean, he rarely ever changes his DP ). He said she was his girlfriend and mahn , Was I jealous! I swallowed my pain and wished him the best life with her. I had ”Situationships” myself, so it was not even my place to state anything. After all, we were nothing but exes. I decided to be intentionally distant because I really have never been one to get close to people who have girlfriends and potentially cause issues between them.  Again, we moved on with life. Since I moved to Lagos, I had always told myself that it was not the place for me, I did a post earlier about my decision to leave Lagos here.  I used to visit Abuja a lot because I have a big sister who lives there and right from the first day, I told myself it was a city I would love to reside in. So I started applying for jobs around there and looking for ways I can move there with no hitches. Waliy got a job in Abuja early 2016 and he told me about it. I was happy for him because he had mentioned it before that he would not mind moving to Abuja so that was just cool.  In August 2016, it was my big sister’s wedding and I had to attend. I came into Abuja for the wedding and I planned to see him after the event. We saw each other and there and then, I knew something that was standard: The connection never left! We spent some hours together at a Pizza spot an then we went for Suya at Yahuza (TMI right?lol ). We then parted ways and I went to the house. Next day, I was off to Lagos. We tried to talk about us after this and we both established the fact that the connection we always had never left. But then what next? Were we ready to give it another shot? Even if we were ready, distance was an evil barrier and we were not about to risk anything.  We left it at an unfinished talk and just went on with life, again.  He would just make jokes about how his mum was waiting for me at the house and how I had to prepare to meet his folks during the next eid( He said this when he went home of 2016 Eid). Lol . Things went on normally and then I left Lagos in May. I was really tired of a lot of things and I felt like it was time to make that move I had always wanted. After all, I was a young single lady who still had the chance to make certain decisions without being held down by anyone. (I have absolutely supportive parents).  Then began my journey to Abuja and despite not having a job to start immediately, I had high hopes. He was there to help me settle down fast and get familiar with the Abuja life and then we had the talk. We knew we still wanted to be together and there just was no reason to hold back anymore. We officially started dating again and it was like we never left. It was easier because we had grown together over the years and there was not really so much catching up to do. I made up my mind I was staying because the kind of happiness I was getting from him was totally indescribable. From then, we got closer and closer and during our visit to Ibadan during Eid, he  came to the house to seek consent from my folks. They gave him, of course, and I went to his place to formally meet his family too, Amazing people, I tell you. We returned to Abuja with high hopes , glad that our union was now properly halal and we were good to go. I will dedicate the next post to talking about how the proposal went because I know this post is already long enough. Look at us. Cute or Cute? What are we doing today? We are reaching out to friends and asking them if they are fine. Asking them if life is going good with them and telling them we are there if they ever need someone to call a friend. Do not just assume that people are fine because you see them smiling. Please ask if they are fine, ask if they have no bother and tell them everything will be fine. Let’s do this and watch ourselves put smiles on people’s faces. You know you can always give feedback via the comment section. I’ll be back. BOS
