The November Happiness Challenge

Day 3: The November Happiness Challenge 2020

November 3, 2020

Sometime last year, I looked around me and realized that most of the pages that talked about marriages, relationships and family were doing it from the angle of sharing negative content. This is not to say that they were wrong with their information, because of course many of these people share what they see around and what their audience sends to them as messages. I had nothing against them, I just knew that we needed positive content too, I knew that the world couldn’t be filled with just unpleasant stories about relationships and marriages, because people definitely live great marital lives too so these also needed to be amplified.

I had also realized that after I shared my pregnancy and Labour story , many people reached out to me about really liking how I shared all the details and how I gave a glimpse into the possible scenarios when one is pregnant and going into labour. They expressed their wish to read more of these stories and also to share theirs when the time came. This made me to understand that yes indeed, we need a page that would go the extra mile in sharing people’s stories , in letting the world know of people’s experiences with pregnancy, conception, labour and its likes. It was imperative at that point that we began to be more expressive and stop being hush hush about things that are so important and could even be a matter of life and death.

Now to Parenting. Over the years, it has been believed that the mothers are those mainly saddled with the responsibility of caring for the child and home. As popular as this has been, we have gotten to know that this is not the norm in many houses, as the fathers also take up the mantle of caring for the children and home, and making it a team work. I am personally quite pumped and interested in the idea of team work, because I believe that a healthy home thrives on both sides being ready and willing to make the marriage successful. Hence, I thought, why not start to put out information that would enhance this? Why not sensitize people more on the need to embrace joint interests in making things happen, regardless of what the Society has specified the roles to be?

I knew that I couldn’t do all of the above alone, I mean, they say experience is the best teacher. How much experience do I have? And even if I had loads of experience, I don’t think it is meaningful to only dish out advice from my perspective. Because if I end up being wrong, it means I’m saying a lot of people have to be wrong too and we don’t want that, do we?

I knew that storytelling would be the best option and these stories would be best come from real life experiences. I had earlier spoken to some people in my circle who admitted that they had lots of beautiful stories with their partners but they were always reluctant to share because the bad stories sell more, and people tend to start putting you on a pedestal when you talk about having a beautiful home. I became more charged that the narrative had to change, and I would contribute my quota into doing that. Thus, Family Tips was birthed.

Family tips is a page where we talk about beautiful marriages, amazing love stories, narrations on how people met, tips on having a healthy home, Conception, pregnancy and Birthing stories, Parenting styles that work and so on. I’m proud to say that within last year and now, we have grown exponentially and the sky is just the starting point. It is even more beautiful that we keep getting messages urging us on and telling us that they look forward to our posts. This is quite soothing, and fulfilling. I now have an amazing team who work with me, and we are always on our toes trying to get beautiful content to you.

This page makes me very happy. The fact that we are creating value, the feedback we get from people telling us that they’ve begun to view marriages in a more positive way, the responses we get anytime we post stories, show that indeed, people see what we are doing. I can’t count the number of times I’ve woken up to encouraging messages, and testimonials of how some of our tips have worked for people. How people say that when they are overwhelmed, they just go to our page to have some feel good moment. How we see random tweets from time to time saying they can’t wait to have their stories on Family tips. It is the most heartwarming thing! So, of course, Family Tips had to feature as one of the 30 things/ people making me happy.

In the world we live right now, Content is king. A large percentage of us use Social media and we learn many things from there . These things inadvertently become a part of us and we find ourselves internalizing them. Hence , it is no wonder why you begin to inculcate ideas you see online into your daily lives. This is exactly why we should be very intentional about the kind of content we allow into our space. You cannot just flow with the tide, the tide might consume you.

Today, we are all going to purge our timelines and pages of handles that get us triggered. Those pages that always somehow bring you bad news and discouraging posts? Let them go! That handle that somehow makes your heart do a thump when you see their posts? It’s time to say bye. Please note that if it is a page that you wouldn’t want to unfollow to avoid conflict ( a friend’s page for instance), you are allowed to mute them. Thankfully, all the social media platforms have the mute option. Mute every page that gives you negative vibes immediately and watch yourself become less triggered. You need to guard your mental health jealously and you need to be intentional about it. Mute that page!

Oh and after you do? Follow Family tips here and here if you don’t follow already. There is always some beautiful stuff going on there.

I’ll be back. OBA.

Family tips is indeed a beautiful initiative. Positive contents, left, right and centre! I love the contents so much. They are very encouraging and soothing.

About blocking out negative contents by unfollowing or muting the accounts to protect our mental health, I can very well relate. Better not to see those things to avoid getting triggered. Let them go.

Family tips is needed, especially because there’s too much negativity to read about just as stated in the post. Everyone definitely needs a platform to at least unwind and you have provided that. Be proud of yourself for you’re doing amazing, it takes work to put together positivity and have people yarn for it. Well done and keep going

The birth of family tips came to me as no surprise, seeing as you already share doses of sweetness about your man and home on your platforms. And indeed the sad tales were everywhere, that one sweet story would easily drown in seconds, with the number of sad tales that will follow. So, family tips got an instant nod from me. You’re doing well baby!
I’d gladly feature, over and over again.
